News: Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2016 announces Anime of the Year finalists

The Tokyo Anime Award Festival holds an annual ceremony to celebrate excellence in Japanese animation, and it’s announced the eight finalists for this year’s Anime of the Year in the theatrical film and anime TV series categories. The finalists were picked from a whopping pool of 489 entries released from November 1st 2014 to October 31st 2015, and the chosen few look like this.

The four film category finalists are:

The Anthem of the Heart, directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai
The Boy and the Beast, directed by Mamoru Hosoda
Expelled from Paradise, directed by Seiji Mizushima
Love Live! The School Idol Movie, directed by Takahiko Kyōgoku

And the finalists in the TV series category are:

Mr. Osomatsu, directed by Yoichi Fujita
Your Lie in April, directed by Kyōhei Ishiguro
Shirobako, directed by Tsutomu Mizushima
One Punch Man, directed by Shingo Natsume

The winners in both categories will be announced at the Tokyo Anime Awards Festival 2016 ceremony, which is being held on March 21st at Toho Cinemas Nihonbashi in Chūō, Tokyo.
